Study and internships abroad
About study and traineeship abroad
The student can go on a study stay and / or an traineeship abroad in the total length of up to 12 months for each study cycle, i.e. 12 months during the follow-up master’s study, and then another 12 months during the doctoral study.
- Study stay or traineeship abroad can last from June 1 to September 30 of the following year.
- The student can go on a stay abroad in all forms and types of study (bachelor’s, follow-up master’s, doctoral; full-time, part-time and distance).
- The student may not interrupt or terminate his / her studies before or during his / her stay abroad.
Silesian University in Opava, Czechia, has participated in the Erasmus+ Programme since 1999. The number of students and employees participating in the Erasmus Programme is increasing every year. During the last academic year we sent for study/placement approx. 100 of our students abroad and accepted more than 30 foreign students.
During the last academic year over 130 of our employees visited universities and other institutions abroad for teaching or training purposes while we received more than 20 foreign specialists. Also the number of our partner institutions demonstrates an upward tendency during the last decade.

Study abroad at foreign higher education institution
- The study stay abroad can last 3 to 12 months in the period from June 1 to September 30 of the following year.
- The stay must be realized on the basis of a bilateral agreement concluded between a home and a foreign host institution.
- Students of all study programs and forms of study enrolled at SU SBA, who have completed at least the first semester of studies at the time of departure and completed the selection procedure successfully, can take part in a scholarship stay abroad.
- The student may not interrupt or terminate his / her studies before or during his / her stay abroad.
- Studying abroad is fully recognized within the study program at the home institution – the student will receive credits for courses completed abroad.
- The student does not pay any tuition fees, enrollment fees, exam fees neither entry fees to laboratories nor libraries at host foreign institutions.
- The participant of a study stay abroad remains a student of SU SBA and all the rights and duties related to his / her status remain the same (including the duty of paying the tuition fee to the home institution).
- The student will receive a scholarship from the home institution in the form of a lump sum per month differentiated according to the host country. The student can also go abroad as a zero-grant-student, i.e. without receiving a scholarship, but with all the other benefits (no tuition fees at the foreign host institution, recognition of studies, etc.) that the Erasmus+ program guarantees. Both options can also be combined (i.e. e.g. for a 6-month stay abroad 5 months scholarship + 1 month as a zero-grant-student).
- The total amount of the scholarship is being calculated in accordance with the grant agreement.
- Students with special needs or those coming from disadvantaged socio-economic environment have the opportunity to obtain an extra scholarship, which they must apply for according to the instructions of the Institutional Coordinator of the Erasmus+ program.
- The student must keep and submit necessary documentation associated with his / her study stay abroad.
- The student is obliged to carry out a study stay within the term agreed in the grant agreement. Early return may lead to returning part of the awarded scholarship.
- The right to an additional extension of the length of stay abroad does not arise automatically. A request can be submitted to the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator, who will decide on the extension.

Before abroad study
- Application form – application form required by a foreign host institution
- Learning Agreement (part „Before mobility“) – contains a list of courses that the student will study at a foreign host university (Table A) and a list of courses that will be recognized at SU (Table B). It is signed by the student and coordinators at home and host institutions.
- Grant Agreement – contains the rights and obligations of the participant of the Erasmus+ mobility.
- Students with special needs or those coming from disadvantaged socio-economic environment have the opportunity to obtain an extra scholarship, which they must apply for according to the instructions of the Institutional Coordinator of the Erasmus+ program.
- OLS language assessment – before departure, it is necessary to assess your language skills in the Online Linguistic Support database.
During abroad study
- Learning Agreement (part „During mobility“) / Changes to Learning Agreement – during the first 5 weeks since the start of the mobility, the student has the right to change the courses listed in the Learning Agreement by completing the part of the Learning Agreement form marked as „During mobility“ or Changes to Learning Agreement.
- Extension of the mobility – in case the student is interested in extending the mobility, he / she can request an extension from the faculty / institutional coordinator no later than 1 month before the originally planned date of the end of the mobility.
After abroad study
- Confirmation of study period – issued by the foreign host university – must be delivered in original to the International Relations Office no later than 15 days after arrival from abroad. The student is obliged to comply with the length of the study stay specified in the Grant Agreement. In case of early return (stay will be shorter by more than 5 days), the student is obliged to return the part of the scholarship belonging to the days by which the stay was shortened.
- Transcript of records – issued by the foreign host university – must be delivered (confirmed by the foreign host institution!) to the International Relations Office no later than 15 days after arrival from abroad.
- Final report – to be filled in by the student online via the EU Survey. The student will receive a request to fill in the report on his / her email.
- Final OLS language assessment – just like before leaving, the student fills out an online language test. The student will receive an invitation to complete the test on his / her email.
Traineeship abroad in a foreign company, training / research center or other organization
- The traineeship abroad can last from 2 to 12 months in the period from June 1 to September 30 of the following year.
- The traineeship is provided by SU or an assigned intermediary institution.
- The student arranges the traineeship himself / herself in cooperation with the faculty coordinator. The traineeship can be performed at a foreign higher education institution or in any other organization (companies, schools, authorities, NGOs, etc.). Traineeships may not take place in EU institutions, organizations managing EU programs and national diplomatic missions (embassies, consulates) of the student’s home country or sending institution’s country abroad.
- Students can search for traineeships at: ErasmusIntern.org, DOREA Educational Institute or European Student Placement Agency.
- Students of all study programs and forms of study enrolled at SU SBA, who have completed at least the first semester of studies at the time of departure and completed the selection procedure successfully, can take part in a scholarship stay abroad.
- The student may not interrupt or terminate his / her studies before or during his / her stay abroad.
- Traineeship abroad is fully recognized within the study program at the home institution – by allocating credits or at least an entry in the Diploma Supplement.
- The participant of a traineeship abroad remains a student of SU SBA and all the rights and duties related to his / her status remain the same (including the duty of paying the tuition fee to the home institution).
- The student performs full-time work on the basis of a pre-agreed work plan.
- The student will receive a scholarship from the home institution in the form of a lump sum per month differentiated according to the host country. The student can also go abroad as a zero-grant-student, i.e. without receiving a scholarship, but with all the other benefits (recognition of an internship abroad) that the Erasmus+ program guarantees. Both options can also be combined (i.e. e.g. for a 6-month stay abroad 5 months scholarship + 1 month as a zero-grant-student).

During traineeship abroad
- Extension of the mobility – in case the student is interested in extending the mobility, he / she can request an extension from the faculty / institutional coordinator no later than 1 month before the originally planned date of the end of the mobility.
After traineeship abroad
- Traineeship certificate – issued by the foreign host organization should mention the period of a traineeship and must be delivered in original to the International Relations Office no later than 15 days after arrival from abroad. The student is obliged to comply with the length of the stay specified in the Grant Agreement. In case of early return (stay will be shorter by more than 5 days), the student is obliged to return the part of the scholarship belonging to the days by which the stay was shortened.
- Final report – to be filled in by the student online via the EU Survey. The student will receive a request to fill in the report on his / her email.
- Final OLS language assessment – just like before leaving, the student fills out an online language test. The student will receive an invitation to complete the test on his / her email.
